October 4, 2011 - General Meeting Minutes
Call meeting to order at 6:52 pm by Rick Makepeace.
- Committee Reports:
- Bylaws – Ross Wady expects to have a report by June’s AGM.
- Apprenticeship – Craig reported that there are 6 classes for this school term. The 1st year is in class now. The 2nd year class is nearly full with another class scheduled for May 7th. A new instructor has been hired and will shadow the 3rd year class. There are 7 openings for the 3rd year class in November. The 4th year is full with 3 on the waiting list.
- PGAA – Richard Neal spoke about Skills Canada.
- It was suggested that we have some type of hands on display with the information posted on the PGAA website. It was also suggested that we develop some type of internal skill competition at SAIT similar to Skills Canada. A sub committee is developing a Master Glazier program.
- Any updates to the website must be in by the 20th of the month.
- GTA will not participate in the Career Fair this year, but concentrate on Skills Canada instead.
- CGA – Jim Brady reported on the Glass Connection at the Delta South in Edmonton. There are 62 people presently registered. There were 130 in Vancouver and 105 in Toronto. Only 14 GTA members are registered.
- Guest Speaker: Chris from Summit Swingstage.
- There are two levels of the Safety Course: Motor Operation with Emergency Stop and the Full Certification.
- You need a full certification course to meet OH & S requirements.
- There is a 3 year expiry on the certificate.
- There is a minimum of 8 students required for a course.
- Buildings over 105 m. tall will require a double rigged stage.
- 50/50 Draw: James Drewe was the lucky winner of $65.00!
- The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
