#2 – Applications Management Consulting Glazier Profile Update:

We have the latest draft, Wendy is working with Ed Giffen and Blake Simpson to finish it off, should have it finished off very soon.  Career fair sign up will soon be here for the 2010 year.

#3 – Ryan Ardiel – Golf Update?

19 currently confirmed for the GTA tournament.  We have space for 60.  Need sign up ASAP so that Ryan can start to order the prizes for the tournament.

We still have space for sponsorship.  Tournament is June 5^th at 9am.

#4 – Henry Szewczyk – Supplier’s who want to do presentations at meetings?

We will be offering presentation spots to our Suppliers.  If you are interested please contact Henry.  Henry, new idea for meeting may be Real Estate Development in Edmonton and where is the industry currently?

#5 – Lloydminster is having a career fair and Steve Peterson brought the display for this presentation that Bernal Ulsifer our newest member from Creative Glass and Aluminum will be putting on for about 1400 students.  Thank you Bernal for supporting our trade.

#1 – April 12^th  Meeting  – Adopt Minutes

#2 –New Journeymen’s awards that are now being offered in BC, is there anyway that we can do something similar here in Alberta when our red seal trades Journeymen graduate?

Membership fees are much higher in BC which is why they are able to offer a monetary award to their new red seal journeymen.

Kaylee – email Richard Neal and see if the PGAA would be interested in creating a certificate program for our new Red Seal Journeymen.

They have something set up already in BC.  Kaylee email Zana Gordon to see if she can explain how their system works.

#5 – We need someone to represent us at the PGAA Meetings, who can we support for this position or can we share it?

Rick and another member will attend all future PGAA Meetings possible.  Kaylee get list of upcoming meetings for Rick.  He will randomly select different members to attend each time to give our members insight into the PGAA and offer different points of opinion.

#6 – New Guest Speaker Ideas?

Juice Party in September on Mona Vie – new juice product that was introduced in the states in 2005 that gives its consumers 13 servings of fruit in ½ cup per day of juice.

Chuck Kerr from PPG will be May.

Henry – Kaylee needs past presenters contact information for Golf Tournament.

Ideas:

·         Field trip to an onsite meeting.

·         Construction association meeting

·         Other local association leaders.

·         A speaker from the Alberta Government infrastructure.

·         A Golf Supply Specialist.

·         Someone from AMA or Lube X to speak about how to get the most out of our vehicles in regards to regular maintenance, etc.

·         Someone from Advanced education who could speak about continuing education for our Journeymen in regards to learning new techniques and about new products and methods.

#2 – Applications Management Consulting Glazier Profile Update:

Blake Simpson will be featured in profile for National Occupational Code under Glazier.  We should have something to show for this by next GM.

Canadian Career week fair will be this November 19^th and 20^th.  We would like to become involved with Skills Canada at the upcoming fair and are discussing how we could do something hands on.

#4 – New Journeymen’s awards offered in BC – Is it possible for us to find some sponsors who would be willing to do this here in Alberta or at least for our GTA members?

BC’s Membership fees are around 1300 dollars which is why they can afford to sponsor their red seal trade journeymen 1000 per person.

June 5^th Saturday 9am GTA Tourney at SandPiper.  We are in need of sponsors for holes this year.  Ryan Ardiel will not be competing so everyone should have a good chance. 120 per person

The North South tourney will be at Wolf Creek at 10am on Friday August 20^th .  165 per person.

Sponsors for holes are at a cost of 150.

You can view the invitations on the website.  Henry will be sending out an additional notice for sponsorships.  We will be inviting our previous guest speakers to both sponsor and play in the tournament.

#7 – A word from the new PGAA President Richard Neal!

Our Annual GM was March 17^th in Red Deer.  Only 9 people showed up to the meeting.  Over the next 2 years we need to increace participation from members.

We are reviewing the spec manual, needs to be more user friendly.

We are upgrading and merging the GAMA, GTA, and PGAA websites.

We would like to have closer liaisons with the construction association.

We are looking at producing a post grad course to update journeymen about new products, etc, on the market.

Looking at directors insurance.

And looking at creating a Glazier Pocket Manual.

Henry – I emailed the people that you told me to but haven’t heard back from them, would you like me to send the information to you so you can forward it on to them?
Leavitt ½ hour to 45 min presentation requested.  Will be a mainly safety presentation.  Presenters name is Bill Pruden.  The meeting is on April 12^th. 
Kaylee Send a second reminder to them of the meeting date, location, time, and ask if they need any special equipment.
May meeting is a PPG presentation from Chuck Kerr.  Don Moore is arranging.

#3 – Lynn – Apprenticeship news?

Nait is lobbying to try to get all 4 classes here next year.  We may find out as early as April 12^th.  Ed needs to be notified that April meeting is on the 12^th as he may be attending.  Ed has been notified of the issues with the new instructor in Edmonton and he is looking into it.  As the GTA we will be requesting an instructor evaluation to be privy to us in future.

#4 – Wendy – Pamphlet/Career profile update?

Applications Management Consulting requested us to locate a glazier to profile.  Blake Simpson has been interviewed and his profile will be reviewed by Wendy for approval.  Once completed we can post it to our website. 

We are looking at pamphlets that are post card sized and other formats for the pamphlet.

Wendy moved to make a motion to have us attempt to be part of the skills Canada section of the carreer fair next year.  This was passed.  Please place it on the agenda for next executive. 

An “In Motion” curtain wall display may be a good idea for the carreer fair next year.  We also might consider doing a skylight and ridge roof display.

We need to make sure that members understand that our school only exists because of membership support and we need to continue that support.  We also support our top students from companies who are members of the GTA, by supplying them with a monetary award and gift certificate for tools. 

It may be a good idea to get some of our supplier members together to create a group of potential members that we might want to approach about membership.

Executive – Look into other successful trade organizations and how they established themselves.

#2 – Discuss Ideas for Membership Differentials

We are considering differentiating membership fees between suppliers, contractors etc and also the possibility of allowing apprentices and journeymen to join the membership – this is a conflicting point of interested, will have to be discussed further.

We are also considering membership cards and creating a new position among the executive for an affiliations committee to create some discounts for members at (for example) Edmonton Fasteneners, All Glass Parts, Job Site Workwear, Bolt Supply, etc – this is agreed to be a good idea and position to create.

We will also be changing the dinner fee from 30$ to 35$ for non members who attend meetings.

Wendy is working on a new pamphlet that could be distributed at Nait, Grant McEwan and various other trade association and apprenticeship branches to promote Glazing and include contact information for our members stating that the member companies support indenturing employees to attend school.

Electronic Database so far has about 8 companies that have provided their information.  No news yet on when All Glass Parts will be sending out an information request for the other provinces but Ross has provided his contacts in those provinces so that we can begin to build additional contacts. 

When sending out the newsletter and all notifications from this point forward the from line will indicate Glass Trades Association News

Kaylee, please locate Executive minutes that indicate your job description and forward to all executive. 

#5 – Membership?

We need an application form for membership posted on our website and on file if needed to hand out.  Joe will look up the old one and we will confer through email to re-create.
We are also considering making a differential for membership fees to possibly include different fees for consumers, suppliers, apprentices and journeymen – we will discuss at next general meeting.
Wendy is beginning work on a new pamphlet hand out to be distributed at apprenticeship information locations that will encourage people to contact our members as they support educating their employees.
We are also considering adding an affiliations position to the executive to help us get some discounts for members.
Dinner fees will now be 30 for members and 35 for non members
 

#6 – Open House?

Went well, we have no final count as there was no sign-in form (note for next time)  Most seemed to show up in the morning.

#7 – Labour Market Research would like to write a national occupation code information packet that we could post on our website for free but we need to supply a Journeyman who is personable, pleasant, photogenic, and agrees not to mention any company names or be wearing any logos.  They will be telling their story of becoming a glazier to be posted and attract people to our trade.  Wendy is in charge of this special project and will be trying to locate a journeyman who fits the bill and wouldn’t mind being followed around for a day or so.  Please notify her of anyone who you think may be good for this position.  Wendy has the go ahead with this project but no signing permission.

This Friday we would like to see some people come out  to see our new space and what your membership has accomplished.  All the support is greatly appreciated and Bob Stadnyk the current instructor will be there to answer any questions he can.

#4 – Newsletter – would like to put it to a vote as to whether or not we can charge a subscription fee for non-members to receive the newsletter through the mail.  We will still offer the newsletter in electronic form.  We would also like to discuss the change of the newsletter from 4 times a year to twice a year in color and possibly offering ad space for purchase.  We will be expanding the newsletter this year to include Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the NWT.

We have opted for going with 2 times a year in color as it will looks much nicer, professional and cost saving.  Kaylee will begin assembling the electronic database.  We will be building the electronic database with information from All-glass Parts  - IT WILL TAKE TIME – we will still offer subscription to non-members.
